Great Gift Ideas for Christmas from George

Welcome to Great Gift Ideas!

One night in Disney World’s “Downtown Theme Park”, I realized that I wasn’t in a “theme park” at all. Every place I looked at was a retail establishment!  I have nothing wrong to say about retail establishments, its just that we were suppose to be on vacation. My First wife was just as happy, perhaps more happy, shopping as going on a thrill ride. Not only on Disney vacations, whatever vacation we were on, some kind of shopping was always involved. She loved it, I was OK with it, but was curious!

Why did we shop at places, where we knew we were not going to buy anything? That is we didn’t buy much of anything. It was more like window shopping on vacation. The most interesting products – the cool ones – were usually way out of our budget and became goals for someday in the future. The things we did buy were of course, the things we knew well and used everyday. They were great value (high end outlet stores). The rest you could categorize as Nick Knacks and souvenirs. To take this out a little further…

We want to shop for crazy, expensive things, we most likely will never buy.  We want to know what it cost, even though we may never be able to afford it. Given our preferences, every store would carry the very best, like stores in the lobby of a casino or down Rodeo Drive. Of course the stand off-est nature of the clerks, guarding the precious goods, is a turnoff for me. I feel guilty for wasting the clerk’s time and don’t stay too long. So everyone loses out, but vacations go on and so does shopping.

We also want to purchase well known name brands directly, at the deepest manufacturer discounts available. I want to deal directly with the manufacturer or at least as close as I can get to him. The manufacturer must produce well known, brand name merchandise at prices not available otherwise. I still won’t buy unless certain of the manufacturer’s reputation. Free shipping, generous return policies and great customer service are also demanded prerequisites to shopping.

I realized this could be a business model and have been setting it up for the Christmas season. Here is the way the model works.  I continually comb the globe looking for companies that fall into these two categories: the outrageous maybe over our head but cool; and the well known brands we use and love at the guaranteed lowest prices. Forget the pesky salesmen and also skip the nick knacks and souvenirs. Just show us your best at your cheapest price!

I contract with these entities such as manufacturers, distributors and large box stores to promote their products, outside of its markets reach. One of the ways that I do that is by writing advertorials. An advertorial is part advertisement and part editorial. I write these by taking my audience on a tour of the client’s web-site store. I will be touring stores, looking for ten products we believe are a great gift idea for Christmas.  You will see the most and least expensive products without a lot of fanfare and will get the flavor of the store.

My Favorite Find:

Boscovs

I have been shopping at Boscovs for over twenty five years. So I was delighted to acquire a contractual relationship with a company who has earned a reputation for high quality and low prices. I recently did an advertorial for them and realized anyone could do all of his Christmas shopping in one place. I will be happy to take you on a birds eye tour of Boscovs Department Stores to see if this possible. See it here!
